Naturezas funções, paixões e ações da alma e do corpo segundo Santo Agostinho [Soul and body natures, functions, passions and actions according to Saint Augustin]

O presente trabalho tem por objetivo mostrar que, no que se refere à relação
corpo-alma no homem, apesar de manter um certo dualismo, no qual alma e
corpo aparecem como substâncias distintas, Santo Agostinho supera o dualismo
platônico, em dois sentidos; primeiro, a distinção não é mais entre duas substâncias
antagônicas; uma boa - a alma - e outra má - o corpo -, mas entre uma
substância boa - a alma - e outra menos boa - o corpo -, mas ambas são boas, já
que foram criadas por Deus. Assim sendo - em segundo lugar -, ontologicamente,
o corpo passa a ser elemento constitutivo do ser humano, com funções, paixões
e ações essenciais ao homem.
