Abstract

Tudo indica que há nas Confissões um projeto filosófico, o qual encontra o seu início propriamente dito no livro X. Tal projeto, com efeito, pode ser concebido como um reflexo da preocupação de Agostinho quanto à necessidade do conhecimento de si e da natureza de Deus. Parece possível demonstrar, a despeito dos interesses teológicos de Agostinho, que a investigação acerca do conhecimento de Deus implica o conhecimento de si. Ademais, pretende-se
comprovar que o referido projeto agostiniano é condicionado pelo estabelecimento de relações intrínsecas entre tempo e memória, observando-se, para tanto, o fato de a compreensão acerca da natureza do tempo não subsistir sem um prévio entendimento acerca da memória.
