The conceptualization of law is the cornerstone of legal ontology, as it reveals the essential elements that differentiate it. Christianity changed the center of gravity of law, since in the Judeo-Christian tradition, the regulation of behavior derived from a “path to be followed” (derectum), which was not the case in Roman jus. In this context, Christianity paved the way for the substance of law to be associated with the norm, changing the ancient tradition that the Romans had established. The investigation of this transition is the subject of this research.
